So ... you've just been diagnosed with cancer.
Like many people, you may prefer to put absolute faith in your medical attendant to provide all your treatment and not get involved with it, or possible options, yourself and just 'let it happen'.

If that's the case for you - that's O.K. but this is probably the wrong web site for you.

But if you DO want to be more involved with your treatment, and your recovery from it, then maybe there's information on this web site that will help you.

You may find the individual stories contained on this web site emotionally disturbing.
They've been included because they illustrate how people, possibly in a similar situation to the one you may now find yourself in consider they were let down by their treatment providers.
Ask any of these people and they'll likely tell you, with the benefit of hindsight, they now wish they'd 'checked things out better' before they blindly agreed to the treatment they ultimately received.

Don't become one of these stories yourself!

It seemed as though, from the moment my diagnosis happened 'other people' had taken over my life and the next few months seemed like a blur.
And, without me even thinking about things - I'd been 'processed' from diagnosis to tests to surgery to chemotherapy
in no time at all.
But, ... in hindsight, my cancer had likely been 'around' for a while.
So, possibly -
in my case
instead of rushing into treatment without considering my options
I might have been more prudent to take a small amount of time to collect my thoughts while investigating
OTHER OPINIONS
about the treatment options available to me.
I guess that's academic now - for me.

There's not much to like on this web site.
But you won't be able to leave it and not be better-informed about things to consider!

And ... even if you don't read another page ...
... probably the best, most logical and most sensible piece of information on this entire website,
(and maybe the most surprising)
yet few people, (if anyone), does this.
Get (at least) a second opinion.
and maybe a
third
opinion.
In fact - get as many opinions as you think you need to satisfy
you
that you've had a complete appraisal of your condition and the treatments recommended for it.
and
'Shop around'
for the treatment provider you're satisfied can provide that treatment in a manner that suits YOU best and at an affordable cost.

For example ...
If you are considering treatment from a private facility - why not go to the cancer services department of a major public hospital and find out what the difference is - - not just in the treatment systems but in the financial COST to YOU.
_________________
How to get a second opinion. ... it's easy!
Just ask your GP to refer you to several places - or if that's not possible request several referral letters are prepared at the same time.
Remember!
The best/easiest way to get information from any treatment provider is simply to ASK them for it.
The problem faced by nearly everybody is knowing WHAT TO ASK.
The checklist downloadable from this page (below) should help you get started.

Differences in the answers you get may SHOCK you.
